The Benishangul Gumuz region is one of the 9 regions of Ethiopia and is located 672 km west of Addis Ababa. The old town of Asosa was founded in 1886. There are 5 existing ethnic groups in the region, including Banta, Gumuz, Shanko, Mao and Komo, with the nationalities and peoples in common.
